I thought in these trying times,it would be interesting to see who makes the most appearances in fans favourite X1 from players they have seen in their time down the lane which will cover multiple generations.pick your team plus 1 sub for each position.mine would be as follows; GK alistair sperring,Def steve parslow, mick pullen, stuart axten, alan legg,Mid,wayne orton, paul pullen, dean wilkins, michael birmingham,Fwd,ally unitt and joe blochel. My subs would be vijay in goal, calvin davies in defence, ben johnson in midfield and kevin clements up front. Im sure this will introduce some debate where players who impress one fan may well have had the opposite effect on others.i hope a few will take part to stimulate our minds in these trying times.COYR

Quite mind boggling to think of all the players over the years but being a centre half in my playing days, one player immediately springs to mind who I think was a different class to any other rocks CH I have seen since namely Graham Marriner.

I did a similar thing on facebook a while ago amongst Bognor fans.Fascinsting names that came up. So many quality players and numerous ones I had forgotten. My XI was Grant Smith in goal; Calvin Davis, Kevin Murphy, Craif Robson; James Crane in defence.Birmy; Dean Wilkins; Dan Beck;Dave Thomas in midfield. Luke Nightingale and Jason Prior up front. On the bench Alastair Sperring; Graham Marriner;Mick Pullen and finally a name from the past Joe Blochel. Like I said though so many quality players available

Scottie Goodwin played for England amateurs, he let me wear his cap. Alan Francis emigrated to Australia and played for the full International team, Ernie Randall signed for Chelsea from Bognor, Ron Jones was a pretty large guy, but could he play, he took the penalties, someone would place the ball and he would run (sort of) from his own penalty area and I have never to this day seen anyone strike a ball as hard as he did. Arthur Burgess was another Brian Holly, Des Norris, style old fashioned centre forward who always scored goals. As stated Brian is still with us, what a great deal of pleasure those players gave me, in fact through all the years there have been so many, I could pick 10 different sides that were all brilliant. I would add that It was travesty that Graham Marriner never made it into the big time, but by his own admission, ( I asked him once a long time ago) a lot of it was his own fault.

Blimey Wurzel, a few blasts from the past there. A couple of not bad cricketers amongst them too. Ron Jones and Titch Morris.

Almost impossible to call. I admire people who have been able to name a whole team plus subs. Pleased to see Joe Blochel mentioned a couple of times. Anyone think Simon Rodger deserves a mention. He went on to play for Crystal Palace for several years after leaving Nyewood Lane.

Yes ruralrock, he and 3 of the other government YTS lads lodged with me during their time at Bognor, Simon was a great talent and was selected for England at under 23 level I think, then his career was badly affected by an injury which resulted in him wearing a body cast for some considerable time. Later he was signed by Brighton on a free which meant we didn’t receive any money from his sell on clause.

I remember simon rodger as a very talented player but with only a slight build.i did however see him play for palace v liverpool around a year or two later and boy had he changed.he was very muscular and caused the reds a number of issues with his skill and pace.as for graham marrinner i have to admit to forgetting him in my side but feel he was clearly a cut above the average player at that level.

What wonderful memories each one of my starting XI have given me. I think I'd also like to add Ricky Burnside to my subs bench just for the memory of him destroying the cine reels at a race night in the clubhouse after he had told Jack that he was very experienced dealing with projectors. I believe the whole lot was damaged beyond repair by the end of the evening.

Yes I remember that well, Jack went ape, the firm we rented them from them said that in all there years of business they had never had their stock returned in such a shocking state, Jack had to reimburse them I think, he definitely wasn’t amused that’s for sure, needless to say Ricky didn’t get asked again. I’m now intrigued to know who you are, but you probably want to keep that to yourself.

He was always sweating like Fred West on an episode of Ground Force.

Found this a really good piece, lots of names from the past which brought back memories, not only of players and fans ,but of clubs that no longer exist.
My timespan is different to the others on here, people like Legs Burgess & Tich Morris (glad to hear he's still around) were before my time and spoken about by my Father, mine starts in the late 60's, from the season we were relegated from the County League Division 1, through promotion to the Southern League, loads of cup runs and ended @ VS Rugby in 2001 , which was the last time I saw the Rocks in the flesh, before my 'world tour'.
Names I'd like to add will bring a smile to the likes of The Old Fart, and others over 60 years of age.
In goal Keith Borlace, seriously good as was his successor Vijay.
Full Back a certain Jack Pearce who was a hard tackler and always a pain in the Referees ear!
In defence Bill Headley, he was a 'hard' tackler, as was Billy Gill, although he showed his soft side when we became the 1st Sussex side to win a cup competition outside of the county when we beat Hendon in the AC Delco cup final in Windsor.
Graham Marriner is a given, in my opinion the best player I saw playing in Green & White, I would add a second given, and that's Kevin Clements who scored over 200 times and I think is still the clubs top scorer.
Andy Woon as Centre Forward, he played in the same style as Alan Shearer and left the Rocks to play around 50 times for Brentford, his brother Wyn was a fair player as well.
As Manager i'd have Jacks predecessor Derek Edwards, affectionally called Colombo on account of his raincoat.
Happy Days
