First of all I have to say that was the most mid-table clash I've ever seen in my life. Chances were very much at a premium. I did almost nod off in the second half. However, that being said the players deserve massive credit because for the first time in a long while all of them looked liked their cared about the outcome of the match. Personally I feel the recent clear out of the squad has done massive wonders for the team spirt and it shows. I still think a few players left simply aren't up to the level required but I won't name them on here as I'm sure they don't want their flagging confidence further knocked.
Danny Howick was excellent on his debut and the best thing you can say about the lad is he looked like he had played in the side all season. He hardly put a foot wrong. Harvey was excellent as always and drove the team on. If we had 11 Harvey Whyte's we would probably stop those noisy neighbours down the road winning the league. Cook, Robb and Robson were all excellent performers and Dan Gifford again showed what is required of a player when you come out on loan and want to do well for the club that have given you a platform to perform and make a career in the pro game.
The referee got the penalty wrong at the end but given his awful positioning I'm not really surprised. When Nathan went down he was possibly obscuring the ref's view but that wouldn't have been an issue had he been better positioned anyway. The only other real incident in the game was the linesman not awarding a "goal" when it looked like their goalkeeper had dropped on top of the ball and gone over the line in the process. Well, we don't have goal line technology so what can you do.
Massive credit to Coritnthian-Casuals for just surviving at this level with their small support, infrastructure and not actually paying players. Their manager has clearly fostered a tremendous team spirt which puts bigger club like Leatherhead to shame.
As I said all the way back in August in my preview to the season. We are continuing to be constituently inconsistent. However, more of that tonight before the season ends and we should be able to finish in the top 10 and not have to change the page number on teletext :-)
