A really determined performance from the lads last night. Carshalton is one of those places that is never that easy to go and get a result from, especially in recent seasons when they have been in and about it at the top end.
We could and probably should have been three up by the break with Jake Flannigan hitting the post and Nathan somehow miss hitting a shot straight at the goalkeeper when all needed to do was control the ball and then place it past him. The goal we scored was very scrappy but it eventually found its way in via their defender I think?
Jake Flannigan was excellent throughout and almost all our good approach play came from his involvement. Dan and Jordy lead the line well and never gave their defenders a moment of peace. The back four worked well together, although we’re very guilty of giving the ball away in dangerous areas which has been a problem all season.
The second half was very similar to the first. I would say we just edged it on chances but at 1-0 they were always a threat and they certainly made sure we earned our win. Our best chance of the second half probably fell to Gifford who got away from his marker, chipped the ball over the on rushing keeper but unfortunately It didn’t quite have the pace to go all the way in.
The home side really upped the pressure in the last ten minutes but fair play to the lads they literally threw their bodies on the line which is extremely commendable given our season was over months ago and all we’re really playing for is pride and a top half finish. The home side did have the ball in the net in second half injury time but I think it was ruled out for offside. The officials were very good on the night despite the constant moaning and berating the Carshalton players and management team were giving them at times.
At this rate we might just about have a good team by the end of the season. :-)
