Just a thought. So Walton Casuals are about to disappear. Leatherhead get a reprieve and get placed in the Isthmian, whilst Bognor take Walton’s place in the Southern? Copied this via statto. Now that could throw up an interesting situation. All, for us having a bit of Southern league

Announced today that Walton Casuals is to follow a process of managed closure (i.e. fold) due to a lack of potential owners or investors coming forward.

Always a shame when a club folds. However, in this case, I do understand how this has happened - they have the more established Walton & Hersham FC on their doorstep .

Walton Casuals' old ground got taken over by the council, who then built over it with a new stadium from which Casuals were unable to receive bar takings or hire out for wedding receptions et cetera, unlike before. On top of that, the club were paying out over £5,000 a week in player wages!
Walton & Hersham moved into the same ground a few months ago after their glorious but antiquated Stompond Lane ground was sold for housing - apparently, the two clubs hated each other.
Walton Casuals' women's and youth set-ups moved over to Walton & Hersham last month as a pre-cursor to the club's closure.

Rocks fans on the pitch after a 0-0 draw there on the last day of the 2002/03 season, which saw us pip Lewes to promotion to the Premier Division on goal difference.
Birmy advised us all to get drunk...or words to that effect!

Merthyr FC have been given a reprieve to replace Walton Casuals. They were due to be relegated.

Hang on. Leatherhead finished outside the automatic relegation places (unlike Merthyr) but were narrowly relegated under the PPG rule.
Now, we’re told, they are to be relegated AND moved across to Step 4 of the Southern League while Merthyr are reprieved (due to the demise of Walton Casuals) and get to remain at Step 3!
The reason given is that this “avoids unnecessary disruption”. to other clubs. But surely the least disruptive solution would be for Leatherhead to replace near-neighbours Casuals in the Southern League Premier? No other clubs would be affected and Leatherhead (rather than Merthyr) would get to keep their Step 3 status? It’s the obvious solution surely - and consistent with the PPG rules which protect clubs finishing above the automatic relegation places?

Indeed. Utterly ridiculous decision.
