Bank Holiday Monday sees the first of this season's Sussex derbies as high flying Lewes visit the MKM Arena.
The Rooks were founded in 1885 and have played upto National league level. After a financially traumatic time under Steve King the Rooks dropped back down to Isthmian Premier league in 2010/11 season.
In recent years Bognor have had the better of the results although last season they did the double over the Rocks winning 3-1 at the dripping Pan and 4-1 at Nyewood Lane.
This season manager Tony Russell has started off in fine form winning 3 out of the first 4 games; then throwing away a 2 goal lead at home to Hornchurch to draw 2-2. At the present time they lay in 3rd place with 10 points.
The Rocks go into the game on the back of an outstanding performance against Canvey on Saturday which saw the team move upto 13th place on 5 points so far. Hopefully we can produce a similar sort of performance to take us into next Saturday cup match against Burgess Hill in a positive mood.
With superb weather predicted for Monday lets hope a big crowd come out for what looks like an exciting game

Will be a great test from an already very hard start to the season to see where we are! Hope the news on Lucas is good, would be a real shame to lose him for any period of time. Hope we get a big crowd and a great game, any positive result Monday would continue what I think has been an impressive start to the season

Well what a game that was ruined after the final whistle by what is rumoured totally unsporting behaviour by the Lewes management team and bench. It will interesting to see what the FA assessor makes of the situation and the performance of the referee? Hopefully we can appeal the cards.
As for the game a superb end to end game in front of another decent crowd. Jasper Mather, who was superb throughout put Bognor ahead on 18 minutes. This was just after Dan Gifford had missed a clear chance. Minutes later Sam De St Croix also missed a great chance, so Bognor could and should have been 2 or 3 up before Lewes had even woken up.
When they did eventually wake up Hall wascalled to make a smart save. A free kick bought scores level and just befire half time Lewes took the lesd. 2nd half Bognor came out and dominated play. A brilliant run by Mather and inter passing by Gifford set up Tommy Leigh Higgs to equalise. Mather who caused the Lewes defence all sorts of problems all afternoon was then fouled by the last defender. A clear red to everyone in the ground except the referee. Only a yellow followed, but Dan Gifford blasted home the penalty. With the game almost over a cross from the Lewes left winger was accidently deflected in by Briffa to save Lewes a point. Then unfortunately the embarrassing scenes st the end of the game which could have serious reprecussions for Bognor with 2 red cards in the 25 man melee!! I hope the Lewes management team are proud of their behaviour because it was obvious to all who were the instigators of the ugly end to the game.

Have to say that I felt it was inappropriate for the tannoy announcer to call for the ref to get a grip. I'm sure the ref and all the stewards around him were well aware that the ugly situation needed to be defused. I'm not sure blasting a request at 100 decibels did us any favours.

Wow that game had it all.
Brilliant game to watch,Nyewood lane looked amazing in the sunshine. Atmosphere was superb,3 points would have made it sweeeter but let’s take the positives into the next game 💚

Unfortunately the post game antics have taken the shine off what was a really good advert for non league football played by 2 very capable sides.could and maybe should have been 2 or 3 up before similar to carshalton we found ourselves behind at the break mainly due to the ridiculous pace of their forward line which made it difficult for our defence to cope.the equaliser was frustrating in as much as it was hit at the wall but went through it giving keeper no chance, then pace on the left destroyed us for a whipped cross and finish.then again like carshalton we tuelrned it around 2nd half to lead until the dying embers whn another dangerous cross was Unfortunately deflected in off briffa again leaving the keeper no chance.my only criticism today would be that again like carshalton we made a late substitution to try and see out the game defensively rather than continue offensively which had restricted them to fewer chances.on both games I personally feel this tactic has cost us points.as for te red cards, these will likely hurt us badly losing 2 main defenders for however many games.its easy to lose your temper but with the new directives to prevent officials from abuse whether or not deserved, there will always be only one outcome.as for the yellow card on the penalty, that was one the ref did get right, again under the new directives it was not a red card offence.our reds will make the Enfield trip even harder than it was already.COYR
