Bognor start this years FA Trophy run this Saturday with a tough home game against Southern League South Premier club Hayes & Yeading.
The opposition are a relatively new club, being formed in 2007 with the merger between Hayes FC and Yeading FC. After floundering around in the Isthmian league in their early years, and later years the Southern league they have reached the high levels of the Conference National league from which they were relegated from in 2011/12 season. They were then relegated again back to the Southern League inthe 2013/14 season only to get a reprieve due to Hereford's expulsion. However this was short lived as they were relegated in the 2015/16 season.
In recent years in the cup Hayes have had the better of results between the 2 clubs; beating us 4-3 in October 2021, and 5-0 in October 2020. You have to go back to April 2008, when Bognor recorded a 2-0 win against the opposition to record Bognor,s last success. Hopefully that will change this weekend !!

Supporters should note that there will be no replay if the tie is drawn. After 90 minutes the tie will be settled with penalties in the event of a draw. Teams can also be able to select seven substitutes of which only 3 may be used.

After floundering around in the Isthmian league in their early years, and later years the Southern league they have reached the high levels of the Conference. Not statistically correct as Hayes FC and Yeading FC were both members of the Conference South (alongside ourselves) at the time of the merger, with the new club starting life in that division in 2007 (rather than the Isthmian) before winning promotion to the National division two years later.

A superb 2nd half performance saw the Rocks record a victory against old rivals Hayes and Yeading 3-1. The visitors started brightly and the Rocks had keeper Ryan Hall to thank for a goalless first half, although the Rocks had chances as well. A very fussy ref who seemed to be determined to be the centre of attention making some very puzzling decisions to both teams. 2nd half, a different game. Rocks came out firing. A great individual goal by Lucas Pattenden put the hosts ahead, yet just minutes later slack marking allowed the visitors to equalise. Great play by Dan Smith was well finished by Jimmy Muitt, then with the introduction of the prodigal son Alfie Rutherford saw him put the game out of the Visitors reach with a great finish following again, superb work by Dan Smith. The game now opened up as the opposition came at Bognor. However Craig Robson was determined not to let the visitors back into the game, and when he was beaten, Ryan Hall was excellent between the sticks. Overall an excellent game despite a really poor display by the ref who tried his best to bring the visitors back into the game. Still it is the Rocks who goes into Monday's draw let's hope for another home game to keep the dream going!!!

Second goal was a lovely delicate flick by Craig Robson. 👏🏽 Said elsewhere every player in the squad played a huge part in that victory yesterday.

Never thought I'd see Alfie R, Jimmy M and Dan S in the same forward line-up for the Rocks - quite a spectacle. The ref was also a spectacle with several inconsistent and baffling decisions. There was a period in the first half when I was sure he was wearing a red shirt. A strong push over by H & Y was deemed a shoulder barge and not a foul whilst in the second half a touch on the shoulder by Mather was a foul. Overall though, an encouraging display from the Rocks and I agree Craig was the MOTM.

First half until 10 minutes before half time belinged to a physical opposition. Thanks to a couple of great saves by Ryan who kept us from going behind. The second half started where we left off in the first and we scored three lovely goals. Anyone who says we cant cope with the physical part of the game was proven wrong yesterday. We competed all over the pitch led by Calvin who led by example. This team are really starting to gel and l hope we can maintain this form with a team who are working hard individually and as a unit.
