On paper this will look like 2 points dropped after being 2up with only around 10mins left but in reality we despite scoring 2 very good goals, just didn't really get going at any real stage and stortford got the least they deserved in a point.they were a big physical side which in the past wouldve intimidated us but we appeared to match them in that department.they did however play the long ball game with pacey forwards that left us struggling to cope defensively most of the time.tommy's goal was a stunner bent into the top corner from around 25yds but in truth it was very much against the run of play.jordy took his chip exquisitely to give us a 2 goal cushion which shouldve sewn up the points.unfortunately 2 rash challenges in the space of 4mins late on cost us dear, especially with Joe seeing red after the 2nd one.thankfully it is a much better start than last season and any points on the road should be appreciated.i think stortford will be tough to beat at home particularly but we now need to brush ourselves down for the fa Cup on Tuesday and then haringey next week and try to get that first league win under our belts.COYR

Frustrating funny game. A tough ; physical opposition who never allowed us to settle into our game plan. An unbelievable strike from Tommy Leigh gave us an undeserved lead at half time. A superb goal by Jordy at the the start of the 2nd half looked to put us in a winning position. Stortford huffed and puffed but never looked like scoring until we stupidly gave away 2 penalties. The 2nd maybe a questionable one. Some will look at this as a point gainned; personally feel it was 2 points dropped because without playing well we were cruising with 10 to go. The side is young, inexperienced and will hopefully learn from this and get better. Overall a better start than last yet albeit a disappointing result

Firstly, putting aside the result, the occasion was wonderful.
In these extraordinary times that we are living through it was lovely to see so many smiling faces and to again feel the sense of community that non-league football generates. Bishop's Stortford's staff and volunteers made everyone feel very welcome and relaxed, and all the necessary protocols were unobtrusively in place and were followed by all those attending the match. The ground itself was spotlessly clean and tidy and a joy to watch football in. And best of all with two sets of noisy supporters behind the goals it helped to generate a great atmosphere.
As far as the match was concerned, the homeside enjoyed most of the possession in the opening half, creating several decent opportunities and keeping Amadou Tangara busy in the Rocks goal. It was against the run of play when Tommy Leigh put Bognor 1-0 up midway through the opening half. After a neat interchange on the left Leigh looked up, saw the keeper slightly off his line and clipped an exquisite shot over the outstretched Jack Giddens from 25 yards out.
After going in at half-time 1-0 up The Rocks made the perfect start just four minutes into the second half. The very impressive Jordy Mongoy who worked tirelessly throughout the match found himself through on goal and slotted calmly past the advancing Giddens from 8 yards out.
Despite Stortford largely dominating possession it looked like Bognor had done enough to return home with all three points. But unfortunately some sloppy defending allowed the home side to work their way into the box, resulting in a clumsy challenge to concede a penalty which Thomas Richardson hammered home in the 79th minute. Worse was to follow five minutes later when it was a case of deja vu with the referee again pointing to the spot after another poor challenge. Richardson again made no mistake from the penalty spot to equalise. Unfortunately as a result of his frustration Joe Cook, who had already been cautioned, spoke out of turn to the referee who took little time in brandishing a red card to The Rocks central defender.
And so at full-time it ended 2-2. A thoroughly entertaining game in which Bognor were left frustrated having thrown away the chance of an opening day win after having done all the hard work. I'm sure Bishop's Stortford were equally frustrated at their failure to break down the mostly well organised Bognor defence.
Overall I think a share of the points was a fair outcome, but more importantly the sun shone, people smiled and non-league football was back. Let us all now keep everything crossed in the hope that one of our greatest and simplest pleasures isn't again taken from us.

Well said, JWH. Totally agree.
As for the ante-penult, "Nurse, more sedation, please. The village idiot has escaped, is on the wine gums again, and is dribbling more incomprehensible drivel!"
