Our first home midweek game of the season sees bottom placed Leatherhead visit the Nye Camp. Following a 0-0 draw with Haringey Borough last Saturday our visitors now have four points from their opening eight games.
With Bognor coming off an impressive 5-0 on the road at Brightlingsea Regent I’m expecting we will start with an unchanged line-up. Joe Cook’s foot injury has hopefully improved enough for him to be included on the bench, while Joe Hancott, Charlie Bell and Harrison Brook will all be pushing for selection.
With nothing much on the telly, a decent weather forecast and most people bored out of their brains after lockdown it will be nice if we could get a crowd of over 600 at The Lane.
The Rocks under lights? Who could possibly wish for anything better?

Well what can we say about that? We got away with one there that’s for sure! We virtually got everything wrong in my opinion. Jake a top midfielder at right back & Calvin our best right back in midfield. A head scratcher for me as I’ve mentioned in previous posts. After an awful first half where we should have been three down,we moved Craney forward & that won us the game. Everything good second half came down the left where we overloaded against them. We were comfortable then bizarrely decided to put Craney on the right when Jake went off instead of putting Calvin back there & slotting someone into midfield. We immediately fell to pieces again. How they didn’t equalise I’ll never know. On the plus side it was a wake up call all round & we still nicked the points. And second in the table does look good!

Well, a crowd of over 500 saw a crazy game of the best and worse of our side. I had to listen to Rocks radio again and the first half was a wreck of a display with the away side going 1-0 up from one of many reckless individual mistakes and it should have been a bigger margin come half time. Probably after having the riot read at half time the Rocks completely dominated the second half going 3-1 up. Then we make a shock8ng individual error and its 3-2. Worse was to come with the away side hitting the bar and post. We held on to go 2nd. But that was far from convincing after Saturdays stunning display. We really have to cut out these stupid mistakes and be at it right from the first whistle. But a wins a win but we must do better.

Funny old game and certainly frustrating for the fans. First half absolute dogs sh*te after the high hopes following Saturday's performance. 2nd half patches of what we are capable of and we strolled into a 3.1 lead. Then a dreadful error by Joe Hancott who had only just come on the pitch allowed Leatherhead back into the game. The woodwork then saved us on a couple of occaisions as we held on for a victory. I feel a draw may have been a fair result, however I think we deserved some luck this season at sometime. Another 3 points takes up to 2nd; hopefully the form and luck continues on Saturday!!! As for our friend Heljag his answer is barely worth a reply other than to say that now they have some lights that actually might let you see it still doesn't beat a Tuesday night at the lane!!!

I saw the same match that cityboy saw rather than the one Felpham Rock, whose opinion I respect, saw. I think Jake and Calvin are both v good players but Jake shades it for me at right back and Calvin always makes a decent fist of it in mid-field and, so, I did not see a problem with the choices. When Joe came on because Jake appeared to have a problem, the only re-shuffle feasible was the one that was made. I don't think there was anyone else to slot in at mid-field. No doubt, though, Leatherhead were up for it and we were caught a bit cold except for the purple patch of the cracking goals.
And, ahhh, no mouldy mackerel miasma this morning...yet.

That was a tough watch in some ways. We started so slowly, and as is our habit gifted them the first goal, We were slow and ponderous all over the pitch and Leatherhead must have thought all their birthdays had arrived in one day. You could see them growing in confidence as they probably wondered how we had scored 5 on Saturday. The throw out from Amadou that was quickly despatched back over his head onto the bar summed up the first half. The second half was thankfully entirely different. We played with pace and fluidity and Leatherhead started to look like a side who had no idea how to stop us. 3 excellent goals highlighted a stunning 30 or so minutes, and we should have had more. James Crane was for me the chief instigator, driving us forward with pace and urgency. And then with 10 minutes to go, the Keystone Cops defending returned, gifting their second and allowing them to hit the woodwork twice more. We are our own worse enemies at times. When we are good we are breathtaking, when bad almost comical. Oh well 3 more points can't be sniffed at. Apart from the Folkestone game being off, it was pointed out to me that next Tuesday's game with Corinthian Casuals is likely to be postponed as they are still in the Cup and will be able to ask for a postponement. In that case it will be a while before we see a home game.

Like Peter it's a radio listening experience for me nowadays. It seems that Rocks were so lucky in the end. Imagine how Leatherhead would have crowed after having all the petrol nonsense delivered in their direction. It could so easily have been egg on your faces Rocks. Courtesy goes a long way in life. Nevertheless 3 points in the bag. Onwards to the next game and hopefully another 3 points.

Well you didn't have to be a football expert to see that Leatherhead goal coming in the first half. I really do think the coaching staff need to sort out how to deal with an opposition's high press we went further & further back until there was no space left & were trapped deep in our own half. Full marks to the Leatherhead manager for knowing we didn't have a clue to beating the high press in the first half. Going in just one goal down seemed almost like a victory! However playing higher up the pitch ourselves in the second half with the wind behind us completely turned the game round & three really excellent goals nothing flukey about those. Our midfield defensive frailties were then well & truly exposed so immense relief to finish the victors but not good for the blood pressure. Again well done to all the players for their determination to turn the game round.

Plus the previous contributors comments also provide a good idea of how unsatisfactory our performance was. Anyway, we got out of jail and all came home happy with three points. It gives us all a nice bounce in our step, but I think we'll need to strap ourselves in and expect the same chaos on Saturday at Cheshunt.
