Any news on when (or even if) the scoreboard will be fixed? Surely Butlins could dip into their deep pockets and provide a bit of funding for a new one - or is it on the list for fundraising? I'd chip in and I suspect many fans would too. Have seen a few nice colourful LED scoreboards at some of the away grounds.... it would also mean we don't have to hear the raffle results being annouced 25 times - don't know if the powers at be could hear the huge groan that went out when the numbers were read out.... again...

Apologies if I'm wrong, but Butlin's have had shallow pockets with us from memory. They've helped out others teams (like Hendon?) in the past rather than us.
Back in the late 70's and early 80's, before we had the cover put behind the 'far end' (that is, not the Seasons end), there used to be a van there with a scoreboard attached to the top, generated by its engine, which also used to give the attendances and a 'thank you for your support'!

As I understand it the board was as old as the hills when we managed to get it with Sponsorship money from Butlins all those years ago. Since then I dont think they have been involved. Its alright looking at the televised games on television but have you any idea what one of those boards cost. Oh that we were able to afford it!!!! There is no doubt that the board is really missed but although I have nothing at all to do with it, I do wonder at the state of it and whether the money used to repair it is really worth it given the number of times it fails during a season

There has been considerable work going on for the past couple of months to try to get the scoreboard functional again. On more than one occasion we were almost there only for another part to fail. It is actually 42 years old and it is proving ever more challenging to source replacement parts so we are actively looking for a potential replacement. Of course these cost a lot of money so it is a matter of finding a board which is in a good condition and not too old.
Butlins have not actually sponsored the scoreboard for a year or two and we are therefore looking for a new sponsor, once it is up and running. It is an attractive part of the ground and the match day experience and with our growing fan base hopefully might appeal to a local company. If interested please contact commercial manager David Robinson on 07876 497929.
Many thanks Simon

Not wrong there. I did a quick check on Google and only one company out of the first six listed showed their prices without wanting you to get a quote. Their most basic scorebaord costs £2,500.

Simon said: It is actually 42 years old.... Cricky I think the old girl (in scoreboard terms) is passed it's sell by date. You would have thought that Butlins would supply a new board given that their spot is in BR. I know they must have suffered owing to the black death, however did they really give a fig about the football club from the start?. Ok they sent a few reps to a game or two to show a face when it was first erected. Makes you wonder what is stopping them from getting more involved. Marketing dept hates football or Bognor perhaps... Who knows.

The reason, westbank, is that, quite understandably, there is no profit in it for Butlins. Their clientele comes from outside Bognor, and, so, why would they advertise at another venue in Bognor, which might only result in taking paying customers away from them. I recall this has been explained before, albeit some time ago, in a thread.

Sorry for the tardy reply - don't come on here that often.

So what company from whatever field, large or small, invests in a non-league football club expecting to see any return. As for Butlins losing family customers to a non league game on a rainy afternoon.
Husband says to Wife with two young children on holiday at Butlins - ''let's go to a local football match this afternoon, it's quite a long walk and it's raining'' ''or shall we stay here and have a good time''... yeah right!
