Didn’t go so can’t really comment. But seems we played more as a team tuesday against a team that will be in the top 3. And again another tight game against them but this time the scoreline going against us by 1.
Think it also sums up our season, but I’m sure Robbie would have learnt loads these last few months what it needs/takes for him to be successful as a manager. Don’t wanna say it in February as there’s still months to go of the season, but time to start thinking ahead maybe into next season.

Given this was a match that featured the three leading goalscorers in the Isthmian Premier (Higgins and Yusuff for Hornchurch and Odokonyero for us), it was a game that had a curious lack of goalmouth action. For that, credit goes to both defences who saw to it that neither keeper had a serious save to make and any trouble that did occur was largely of their own doing. Robson and, in particular, Cameron Black were immense at the back and, after a nervy opening, Rabbetts linked well with Olaniyan and Gifford down the left and the little we did create generally came down that side.
The new keeper seemed confident and vocal for the most part but had already had one unsuccessful foray to the edge of his area wildly missing his kick when the next one a few minutes later saw him flatten the Hornchurch forward for the penalty. He got a touch to the resulting spot-kick but, in truth, had very little to do for the 50 mins or so that remained at that point.
We posed more of an attacking threat in the second half - ironically, the injury to Harvey lead to our best spell as Calvin switched to his more natural position of right back (and did very well) and Figueira replaced him and although some of Walter's output was a bit hit and miss, he did at least provide a genuine ability to carry the ball forward at pace, something we'd been lacking until then. He had our best chance of the match shortly before the end when firing over left-footed from an angle when he should have at least hit the target but. in truth, he was hardly alone in lacking incision and a bit of guile in the final third.
Hornchurch looked like the sort of side that wins this league and I'd reckon they'd perform well in the National South too but we certainly matched their effort and commitment. I haven't seen quite as much of the Rocks this season as normal so other opinions may be more valid but we certainly have some talented players and the effort is definitely there but I'm not entirely sure the set-up is quite right. Nathan looks isolated up front and really needs either Gifford or Paterson (depending on how you want to play) to be a bit closer to him. Similarly, it took an injury and reshuffle to give the midfield a better shape on Tuesday - until then Hornchurch found it far too easy to either play through or run through the Davies and Olaniyan pairing. I know injuries have played a part (I haven't seen MacLoed but I understand he was pretty impressive) but I sense we should be a bit higher than lower mid-table with the players we have at our disposal.
