Well after the Lord Mayors show probably our worst performance of the season. Totally outplayed from the start although we were the architects of our own downfall. 2 dreadful bits of defending in the first 10 minutes and we are punished and 2.0 down. Lewes reduced to 10 men for a punch, and could probsbly have countedvthemsrlves lucky not to be down to 9 for the melee that followed. 2nd half we get a goal back early on, then go to sleep yet again defensively to conceed 2 more. Even with 10 players totally outplayed very very disappointing. Shame about the idiot Lewes / Worthing fans behaviour. Fans banned for trying to bring a cricket bat into the ground. Fan evicted.Beer being thrown over the ref. I really hope they are hit with fines / discipline for this. Great shame I used to have a lot of time for Lewes but now they think they are big time Charlies they have attracted a bunch of morons to their fan base. To be perfectly honest hopefully this is the kick up the backside we need before our cup semi final. Onwards and upwards

Saturdays & today's results were sadly entirely predictable. As of Sunday the games we have played against the teams in the top half of the table resulted in W3 D6 L10. Against the teams in the bottom half W11 D1 L8. Today's game gave the distinct impression that the Manager & his team were out of their depth.

Not digging anyone but a few things that have gotta change next season.
How many penalties have we given away? No shot on target in the first half? Joe Taylor has scored 3 penalties against us this season against 3 different keepers (see where I’m going with this?)
Lewes well drilled, knew their roles. Them going down to 10 men doesn’t affect them,as they can happily leave Joe Taylor up top on his own.
Some Lewes fans let themselves down today, but we’re no saints at times but with the “fan” down seasons end in the second half our fans should be applauded for not turning it into something far worse. And the beer throwing over the referee was just silly.

Cityboy, good to see that Worthing get a mention from you yet again, even though we are not even in the same league anymore. If as you allege, morons wearing Worthing colours misbehaved and made total twats of themselves, then it is highly likely they are from the younger contingent who are no longer welcome at Woodside Road. Probably best that you don't drag Worthing FC into your critical comments just because your team are not performing as you would like. I note that your gate today (apparently) was just below 700, so your stewards should be well able to deal with any problems. At Woodside the gate is always close to or above 1500 and having weeded out these young thugs the matchday experience is always enjoyable. Believe it or not as a Worthing fan I have always liked and respected Bognor Regis FC, and I miss the local rivalry and derbies.

Notwithstanding the fact that the game obviously meant far more to them than it did to us (and it showed), this was one of those sobering games where the gap between ourselves and the sort of team that succeeds in this league showed itself to be what it really is - huge. Lewes are not even in a play-off spot remember, primarily because they can’t defend, yet, a 10 minute spell just after half time aside, we’ve hardly exerted any pressure on a team that has played 75 minutes with ten men and three of the goals we’ve conceded have been self-inflicted, two of which are a direct result of trying to play out from the back in an expansive style that we don’t have the players to do so.
As a club, I think we find ourselves at a bit of a crossroads. Yes, we’ve had a number of injuries, but we’ve used almost 40 players this season, almost half of which have not belonged to us, including five different goalkeepers, none of which were ours. Is this the model we are intending to use going forward where we exist mainly to give a first taste of men’s football to both current and former academy players of league and National League clubs or are we intending to build a bigger nucleus of our own permanent players, sprinkled with a handful of our own youngsters coming through (the likes of Howick and Briffa). I’d venture to suggest that there’s more chance of success with the latter but, if so, that’s going to require a hell of a rebuild over the summer as I’m not entirely convinced we have more than 5, possibly 6 players of our own that have what it takes at this level. Of course, whether we have the finance at the club to rebuild in this way is another matter altogether. Either way, it’s been yet another disappointing season of mid table obscurity to add to the last couple that have been in a similar vein.

Excellent post by Paul plus, unless I missed the reason previously, I still don't know why someone of such value to the club in terms of playing style / leadership / goals from his position as James Crane appeared to be continually cold shouldered and then he decided to leave. James is now at Arundel, for goodness' sake. What a waste.

The shocking abuse of Amadou Tangara from the mackerel louts was the final straw for me.

From best performance of the season to possibly the worst in two days! Maybe some of our youngster need to stop believing their own hype, they were shocking defensively, and we were really fortunate only to concede four.
Until Harvey came on, not a single pass forward apart from a quickly taken free kick. Alfie was a passenger today as midfield just couldn’t cope with the physicality of Lewes.
As has been mentioned, I don’t know where we go from here? A complete rebuild needed, I’d probably only keep four or five of the current squad, big summer ahead.

Reading some of your match reports, and talking to Worthing fans who I am friends with. Unlike what you say tonyh they do still attend your games. The biggest problem you have is that your club have been in denial to their behaviour for too long!!! I also miss the local derbies we used to have but I most definetly don't miss this section of your fans, ffs they even caused trouble in our pre-season friendly!! For once take the rose tinted glasses off and admit the truth. In other matters well done in your first season at the higher.level.

Sod the little tit for tat about rocks/Worthing.
Regarding yesterday like or loathe Lewes, big strong athletic players, stuck to their game plan. Have an identity. What’s concerning,we still conceded two goals against ten men. Granted Joe Taylor must love playing against us. To many passengers yesterday.

Yesterday, whilst an abysmal performance, I think it proves a point that a massive revamp of the squad is required. I think the core, for example Harvey and Calvin need to stay, and we should have kept James Crane, but also Robbie talks about nurturing youth and uses it as an excuse every game, but most of “our” youth doesn’t belong to us, it belongs to other teams. I think Robbie is now clearly out of his depth, we need somebody more experienced in this level. We need to write off this season and come back stronger next year.

I find it quite strange that anyone should come on here and state that a player who has as much experience in all levels of the game as Robbie has, should say that he is out of his depth! We are talking about our club here. A club that has notoriously competed at a higher level than we maybe should. A club that has no income is being pumped into it by any person with millions of pounds. We get by with sponsorship from differing avenues, such as Dave Robinsons' yearly squeezing of businesses in and around the area. Many are from businesses that many better clubs dare to dream of. We have individuals who constantly make donations to assist with the finances and lastly, we have the fans who stay with us through thick and thin and who the club is so grateful for their continued support. We have supporters who stay loyal to the Rocks Executive Club, the result of which is plain to see when looking at all the ground improvements that have been made to the ground over the last few years, most lately the scoreboard which has been replaced. We have a very active Supporters club who also have helped in many ways in developing the ground.
As a club, it may look like we are failing on the pitch. Perhaps in many eyes we are failing, but with money being siphoned down from the Premier League we are not far from the bottom of the share. That means we have a committee making the best budget available as is possible for our coach to operate on. Our committee will never put the club in the same position we had some years ago where we had to pull the plug on budgets and rely on youth, suffering two relegations to allow the club to stabilize. We must never get in this position again and I know the present committee will never allow it.
What does this mean for the club? What it doesn't mean is that our committee stands still and does not want the best for this club. We, all of us, want to compete at this level and try our utmost to attain the next level. But because we have to keep to a budget level and not go beyond it, it is a complete balancing act with player recruitment. It means getting experience in and also the best youth players we can who we feel can learn to operate at this level to keep within budget. It also means that you can probably only operate with a squad of around 18 players, changing during a season to try and improve it, some going out and some coming in. What you cant legislate for, with a sqaud of this number, is a large number of injuries and some suspensions. This season we have lost senior players to injuries not once but twice and have had to get loan players in to compensate, or try to.
We have competed with some of the best teams and sometimes had some tremendous wins home and away. But weve also had some dreadful defeats against lesser teams. weve gone to Weston-Super-Mare and beaten them in the Cup against the odds. This isnt new to our club. But against many problems with injuries we have stayed in this league and the fans have stayed with us. Its been disappointing but with everything taken into consideration, we have coped where a lot would have folded. In a lot of games we have had to ask the younger element of the squad to be men and play against much more experienced players that them. Some we have won some we have lost.
I will point out here and now that I am not on the committee, I just volunteer like most of the club staff, to do a job for the club. We do it because we all love the club and want whats best for it. This is just purely my insight at what I see when I come to work at the club and the problems club personnel face during a season. I do not speak for the committee even though I fall in line with them whilst carrying out my duties. Its not been the best season, far from it, but its not been for the want of trying, far from it. All, I am doing is trying to enlighten everyone is that people are doing their very best but the club has had some insurmountable problems this season. The Committee could have gone out and allowed our coaching staff to spend money we simply havnt got. Maybe it it could have worked, probably it wouldnt have and there would then have been some more serious problems for the club to face. Its been disappointing and everyone shares that. But at least we have a club that is financially sound and ready to start again next season. I will now put my tin helmet on and face the flack that I know will be in bound.

But at least we have a club that is financially sound and ready to start again next season. I will now put my tin helmet on and face the flack that I know will be in bound. I agree with most of what you have said, however I think things have plateaued since our relegation, I know we have a limited budget and no big time owner pumping millions in, but I think people want to see a team that are at least fighting on the pitch. I’m prepared to be challenged on this but what I saw yesterday was a team that didn’t look like they wanted to fight, a team that has given up. That is the last thing that I as a supporter want to see, because they represent the club and the people that as you say, work hard throughout the week to keep the club running. I think the group of players will learn from certain experiences this year and there has been some good moments such as Weston, Stortford at home and Aveley away, but there have also been some games when I have wondered if the players actually care about what they are doing. I don’t disagree that injuries to senior players e.g. Robbo and Harvey have contributed to a lack of depth at times and experience in the squad, and it is heartening to see that players that have been given opportunities have exceeded in their roles. Next season is another opportunity to push for playoffs, and as long as the club is progressing, I think most fans will be happy. UTR.

Don’t always agree with Peter but on this I am with him 100 per cent I would rather follow the rocks with the current system than watch as some fancy Dan comes in with a shed load of money and two years later after they’ve gone the club folds just accept that Bognor play at this level for a reason because it can!

Make no mistake, Monday was very disappointing. BUT on our day we can beat anybody, in particular the league leaders Hornchurch and Bishops Stortford at home at the Lane. We have also beaten a strong Weston Super Mare team away in the cup, so Robbie is clearly not out of his depth, he is Premier League.
I think though, the quote that we had given up is half true but for the wrong reasons. It is very hard to disguise that our league season is in effect over, we can't go up and we can't go down and we made our league position safe at Bowers. As much as we want to play for pride and players for position next year, we have to accept that we have many loanees and their position at their parent club or this club will not be affected by whether we finish 13th, 14th or 15th. Lewes had an extra day to recover but they were so strong and clinical, an extra day probably would have made no difference, like being down to 10 men.
I think Robbie sees the same things that we see and would like to rebuild, but the Bognor job is a poison chalice. You have to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, expansive winning football on a small budget. The playing side of things is inextricably linked to the budget. If you want to know what it was like before we went on promotion runs and Trophy runs, it was like this. At Bognor we have to build, we don't play fast and loose with budgets and sometimes players leave for more money. If we throw money at it, we could end up like Kingstonian, not knowing whether they will still exist at the end of the season, let alone whether they will stay in the league, a pyrrhic victory.
As for the Senior Cup Semi-final we have it all for play for so the motivation is still there, so I expect a different game at Lancing. This team is a better Cup team than league team, so there is still hope COYR !
