Other than the fact that the 3 coaches have sold out very little said about our upcoming final against local rivals Worthing. Therefore as the game approaches I thought I would try to start to get the atmosphere going and see what fans really think about the games?
Worthing have by far exceeded what I personally thought they would achieve this season at the higher level and congratulations to them for that. However it would seem that all these games in a short period of time have started to affect their squad. Several key players including their keeper missed Sunday's defeat to Oxford City. In a purely selfish point of view I hope they will still be missing on Thursday and their team remain tired after their adventures. Still a local derby at the Amex in a cup final will surely give them a boost in their final game of the season.
As for the Rocks in what I am sure we will all agree has been a very disappointing season, what a chance to finish on a high and give everyone a boost for next season. Without a doubt this has been a disastrous season for injuries, key players missing at key times has not helped our cause. However it would seem that other than obviously Jake Flannigan and Sam McCloud we have everyone available for a change for this game. This season when we have been at full strength we are a match for any team with victories over both the teams (Bishops Stortford and Aveley) that will be playing at Worthing's level this season; and Brighton in the semi final.
Personally, despite some poor games this season I feel we are not far off a good team for next season. So lets get behind the boys to be the extra man and give us all something to believe in for next season.

Yeah spot on. I said elsewhere it kinda sums up how our season has been, just feels a tad meh. But agreed it’s a cup final against our main “Rivals” in a Premier League stadium. For the players it’s a fantastic chance to play at something spectacular like it is,but from a fans point of view it’s kinda a damp squib. But us as fans will 💯 be behind the lads from the 1st whistle. A great opportunity to hopefully grab a few JcL’s or newer fans for next season, get behind them and sing loud and proud.
Up The Rocks.

I'm absolutely buzzing for this one, as are many others I know of. For me, we the fans deserve this. How brilliant is it that we've got three coaches going, sections practically sold out and a designated noisy section! We've had some great results this season when we've been at our best and now we face a depleted, deflated Worthing side with our full squad available. Let's get behind the lads, so many times this season we've given it our all and they've responded. Since I was young...

I agree the season's been 'meh' but, as an oldie in terms of watching Bognor albeit very sporadically now (going back to 1974), I happily remember the unexpected glory days of consecutive seasons of FA Cup first and second round / Sussex Senior Cup victories at The Goldstone Ground in the 1980's. I say unexpected as, prior to Jack taking over, we were the Coventry City equivalent of the Houdini boys just avoiding relegation season after season. We've not been in the first round of the FA Cup for nearly 30 years and we don't make cup finals that often these days. Every cup final is sacred and should be savoured.
Sadly, due to work issues (actually, being taken out to a swish London restaurant with our main clients - top table at last!) I won't be at the final on Thursday but, by Zeus, I hope the lads win and win well.
Talking of Jack, I hopped East Dean two Saturdays back and their committee were full of nothing but praise for Jack, down to remembering a recent event at Seasons when (despite being deputy lead of the National League) Jack went off and came back with a load of milk after the club had run out.
PS - Glad for 'Cookie' to see his hometown club promoted to the Scottish Championship!

It’s almost 10 years to the day since our first trip to the Amex for a Sussex Senior Cup final - the 4-0 drubbing by Brighton’s U21’s at the end of the 2012/13 season, memorable only for Ollie Pearce’s wild penalty when I think we were only 1 down. He can repeat the trick tonight if he wants… Kane Wills and, I believe, Dan Thompson also featured for us that day and they both could, in theory at least, be lining up against us later. As it happens, we had also finished in 14th place in the Isthmian Premier that season (53 points instead of 52 this year) and it had also been about three weeks since our last competitive fixture on that occasion too. Let’s hope it’s a great evening. Difficult to predict how it’ll pan out as I think a lot of that will depend on how Worthing have reacted to their play-off defeat. Despite our inconsistency, we’re a match for most teams on our day and a tired and despondent Worthing might be just the sort of team we can take advantage of.

After a pulsating game where our team probably edged Worthing, it went to the lottery of pens. We lose 8-7 and Worthing win the trophy and well done to them.

It's all been said but, anyway, very proud of the Team - they were unlucky to lose.
It was worth a fiver to see Ollie miss the first penalty. If only he'd fallen over as usual as well, he could have got a tenner.

Echo the sentiments above. Over the 90 minutes probably the better team and unlucky to lose. Penalties are a lottery credit to their young keeper. Lots to build on, a real tonic to the fans after a disappointing season. Hopefully if we keep the bulk of this side and add a few new faces we can have a good season next year. Credit to the fans for great support.

I know the Senior Cup has its detractors, and in terms of priorities for the better Sussex non-league teams, it is probably the least important competition we enter but, a bit like the Carabao Cup for the Premier League teams, if you do happen to find yourself in the final, then it is something that you definitely want to win. And, again, I know our supporters’ experiences of the Amex have been mixed over the years but it does lend itself to a sense of occasion that a trip to Crawley or Eastbourne Borough can’t match. Non-league can’t all be about away trips to Potters Bar and Brightlingsea after all.
As for the match, ultimately the result that many would have predicted but I think very few of us would have seen a performance like that coming. To a man, they stuck to their tasks in a way that belied their inexperience (seven of the starting XI were 20 or under remember), winning their individual battles all over the pitch and at no point did Worthing put us under any real sustained pressure. Both teams looked out on their feet by the end (us from not playing at all in the past three weeks, Worthing from playing too much in the last three weeks…) and we should have won it before the lottery of penalties but, as on occasion this season, a lack of composure cost us in the final third and relatively few of the promising positions we created actually turned into clear cut goalscoring opportunities. Given the amount of players we have that aren’t our own, it’s very difficult to know exactly who will and who won’t be with us next season but, based on what we saw tonight, if we can add a bit of guile up front in the summer and add a creative player in midfield then I think we’ll have the basis for a genuinely competitive team.
As I said, I thought each player more than played their part but I thought Josh Dockerill was outstanding at right back - defended well, bright going forward, always picked the right pass - he’ll have a very good chance of playing at a higher level if he carries on that way. As for Worthing, I’m assuming that they’re normally a lot better than they showed last night but I thought Kane Wills was their best player by quite some way - always available for the pass, always in space, always playing the right pass - we obviously taught him well…
Given the inconsistency this season it’s not always been easy to see exactly what we’re trying to achieve but, if that’s a glimpse of what’s to come then, comings and goings notwithstanding, perhaps we are on the right track after all.

Still reeling from this one. Worthing had a lot of the possession but Rocks were super defensively and we actually created some great chances to win it in 90 minutes. Feel sorry for 'Macca' and 'Harvs' for the penalty misses but I think eventually the whole team would have taken a spot kick in the end. Proud of the team. Pillars of the Sussex County Cup and I am also proud that we take the tournament seriously. That's more than can be said of other Sussex county based teams. A tense game throughout as expected but I thought the lads did very well and I look forward to next season knowing we have a good nucleus of players. Supporting the Rocks is always a pleasure especially on a cup final day. Alas, the better side on the night lost.
